Getting Healthy

Well it happened! I'm on a diet. I have got to be healthier. My mood has been grouchy, feeling unmotivated, eating my troubles away. You come to a point where you got to change something! I have to go all or nothing, but I will not deprive myself.

So I started with looking up healthy, low carb meals and smoothies on Pinterest. I started 2 boards   pinterest.com/dinamichele08
I will be adding more to these boards regularly. I don't want this to be too hard and not achievable. It also has to be inexpensive. So I thought let me try what I have on hand in the house that is healthy. I had a box of Carnation instant breakfast and saw a smoothie recipe on the back. So that's where it begins. Smoothies for lunch or my lunch prequel. Something to fill me up so I don't over eat at lunch. Breakfast will consist of a low carb or no carb choice. I had eggs, so lunch is a scrambled egg with a slice of cheese melted plus a cup of coffee. Dinner option was chicken breasts drizzled with olive oil and seasonings. Canned carrots with cinnamon and brown sugar (just a little butter). I measured a 1/2 cup of white rice. I also had a side salad. Now the dreaded nighttime snack. I made brownies the night before I decided to get healthy. But because I'm not depriving myself I will have one! Also wanted to add that I drank water through out  the day. I added a walk on our bike path too.

This is my unorthodox menu and plan of attack. I am no expert, but I am going to try this way for now.

UPDATE

I have been doing will. It's been 4 days! I feel more energy and lost 3 pounds. I'm not really trying to lose weight but eating less carbs will do that. It's really about making better choices for myself and my family. Not everything can be low carbs. Because let's face it, you cannot please everyone in the house. Cutting out fried foods and fast food helps with the overall wellness of my family.

This is just my own way of a healthy diet. ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN BEFORE STARTING ANY DIET CHANGES.
Let me know your healthy tips and recipes. I would love to hear them or share them and I will post them on my Pinterest Boards. I will update my progress in future posts.

HERE'S TO YOUR HEALTH!

Mother’s Day Tiered Tray

A new idea for your tiered tray styling.  For me it takes a lot of work to figure out how to style these trays. I think the best way is to have a theme and then rummage through the house like a maniac! (just kidding) Try finding unique items like this Willow Tree figure. Old vintage tea cups and saucers bring in some pink with the addition of books that happen to say Mom in the title.(thanks Joyce Meyers) Try and use repetition of colors for a more cohesive look. I always add some greenery and flowers too.  Now get going!....

Styling Tiered Trays

Styling a tiered tray can be a daunting task. How do you even  start? I am going to show you how to make it happen.  First: Theme pick your holiday, season or subject Second: Gather shop your home, go to the Target dollar spot, thrift shops etc. Third: Repetition  I like to buy in three’s and two’s  keeping the same piece on each level brings continuity  Fourth: Scale Larger items at the bottom, smaller at the top This is pleasing to the eyes! Fifth: Be Creative  There are no limits to what you can achieve! Use your imagination and it will naturally flow! I hope this helps you have fun decorating your trays!

Finding Strength In The Darkness

I found out my youngest son Nick had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 6. When you hear news like this it is earth shattering! The prognosis is bleak. No cure, wheelchair bound by 12 and life expectancy 21. The disease so far has been a true test to all of us.   Fast forward to present day. Nick is 21. He is in a wheelchair and still no cure. On January 2 of this year 2020, he had elective surgery on his colon. Surgery went well and we went home after a 5 day stay in the hospital. The second day home, Nick was in excruciating pain. We immediately head back to the hospital. Did I mention that it is about a two hour drive!  Arrive at the hospital which consisted of 2 emergency surgeries where we almost lost him. 8 surgeries later and an ilestomy bag that helped save his life.  It was just about 2 months staying in the hospital. We had to leave our 2 adult children without their mom, dad and brother. My husband had to go on a family leave with no pay from his job so we could be with our
