An Easy Kitchen Update

Need a kitchen face lift? I would love to say that I was getting my kitchen totally redone, but that's not going to be the case. Instead what I have always done is work with what I have. About 2 years ago I painted my cabinets from builder oak to white. It's held up pretty good. Now I am wanting a coffee bar area, and I really don't have a place to set up shelves, and my house is pretty average size.
Last time on the blog I showed you how to set up a coffee bar on your counter. Now, I decided to extend that into my cabinets above the counter.
First, I took off the existing cabinet doors. It's not really pleasing inside. Mismatched cups, glassware, etc. I have cheap cabinets so let's just say the shelves seem a bit bowed. No worries. I will address this later. So I skimmed through Pinterest and found a pin that inspired me. That's all it takes for me people, my insane Pinterest addiction! It was of course a coffee bar with all the bells and whistles! Rae Dunn, signs, garland etc. Since I am not a Rae Dunn collector I will use my regular drinking glasses. We happen to drink out of Mason Jars, so I have plenty to display.
I started to line them up by size on the bottom shelf. You could use your mugs or glasses if you like. It's really up to you. Next, I added some fall decor. Since it's September I like to decorate for fall then in October I will add in some Halloween. Then if I'm not too tired of it Thanksgiving in November. Just be warned that I am a Christmas fanatic! So I cannot promise you that I will wait for December to decorate for that.(just saying)

Below the cabinets is my rustic centerpiece box filled with my coffee cups, next to the coffee maker. I added my white cow creamer, my handmade sign, a pumpkin, scrabble letters and a mason jar with fall flowers. I also hung 2 mugs above with cup hooks. If you  have any wall space for added decor, use it up. You could hang a sign or wall decor that you love. I chose to hang up our initials. I got these at Michaels at the checkout bins only $1 each SCORE!
I hope this gave you the face lift you were looking for. Remember you can always put the cabinet doors back on if you get sick of it. It literally cost me nothing. All you need is a little inspiration!

Stay tuned for more....

Almost forgot. You could put a piece of fabric on the shelves to cover them up if they are not pleasing esthetically or bowed like mine. Also contact paper is another good option.

Happy Decorating!

FRENCH COUNTRY HUTCH DIY

This traditional style hutch was here when we bought our house. It originally had a mirrored back.  At first, this didn’t bother me too much until Pinterest happened. It seemed like everyone was chalk painting their hutches. I didn’t want to change the whole look, but I did want to get rid of the dated mirrored back. So what do you think I did? Chalkboard paint baby!  This small investment in an $11.00 paint was worth a shot. It was scary at the first coat of paint because it looked like it wasn’t going to work. I decided to press on. Guess what? It worked! I will take at least 3 coats of paint.  The next step was to take the glass out of the doors so I could view the decorations better.  Here are a few close up photos of my decor.

Farmhouse Flower Market Style

Pick a theme 2. Choose a color 3. Use unexpected items PICK A THEME Let your imagination go wild! Think of a hobby you like or get inspiration from nature. How about a farmer's market stand, store front or location you love. Gather decor items that pertain to it. CHOOSE A COLOR Start out with 1 color and find  items  or paint  something.   For example,  an empty picture frame or Mason Jar. Use fabric in a garland or tied to a jar. Get creative with flowers and handmade crafts. USE UNEXPECTED ITEMS An unexpected item is something normally used outside or a salvaged piece. Old ladders, shutters, doors, etc. Here is how I achieved this Farmhouse Flower Market Theme I took an old ladder that I found on the side of the road  and painte...

Styling a tiered tray can be a daunting task. How do you even  start? I am going to show you how to make it happen.  First: Theme pick your holiday, season or subject Second: Gather shop your home, go to the Target dollar spot, thrift shops etc. Third: Repetition  I like to buy in three’s and two’s  keeping the same piece on each level brings continuity  Fourth: Scale Larger items at the bottom, smaller at the top This is pleasing to the eyes! Fifth: Be Creative  There are no limits to what you can achieve! Use your imagination and it will naturally flow! I hope this helps you have fun decorating your trays!
